Hip-Hop Dance Performance

Anton Smith is the founder and artistic director of The Human Project, Southern Arizona's first and oldest professional urban dance company.

Originally from Philadelphia, he has had the privilege of training with notable dance artists such Ione Nash, Richie "Crazy Legs" Colon, Brian Freedman, Dave Scott, Rennie Harris, and others. He received his dance training in the Philadelphia/New York area and has choreographed and performed actively throughout the U.S. since 1992. Anton holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts program in dance from the University of Arizona and has received the Honors College and Medici Scholars awards for choreography. Some of his other awards include Most Dynamic Group in Philadelphia's WHYY Talent Search, Best Funk choreography at National Dance Alliance in Orlando, and Best Overall Group choreography at Showstoppers in Phoenix.

Anton and other members of his performance group, The Human Project, have been blessed to share the stage with R&B recording artist Ashanti and R. Kelly, in addition to studying with internationally renowned Brazilian dance company, Bale Folklorico da Bahia, in their home country. Anton has also worked with many arts and community service organizations, including the YWCA, Tucson Unified School District, Tucson Pima Arts Council, and UA Presents. In addition to winning numerous awards and competitions, Anton's unique choreographic style has afforded him the opportunity to travel to various locales ranging from Brazil and Europe to all throughout the US,
